Deutsche Schule Málaga

Deutsche Schule in der Provinz Málaga or Deutsche Schule Málaga (DS Málaga; Spanish: Colegio Alemán de Málaga) is a private German international school in Marbella, Malaga Province, Spain.^[1] It serves years 1–12,^[2] The education begins in early childhood, and ends with Oberstufe/Bachillerato.^[3]

The pastor of the German Evangelical Church and the former consul of the Empire of Germany established the school, which educated German and Spanish children and was founded in 1898. It closed in 1945, at the end of World War II, but was re-established in 1967 by Hans (Juan) Hoffmann Heinkeder (Berlin, 1916-Málaga, 1998), the German Consul General in Malaga at the time.^[4]

Bajo el patrocinio del estado alemán, el Colegio se convirtió pronto en un colegio de encuentro, abierto tanto a alumnos alemanes como españoles. Al igual que ocurrió con los demás colegios alemanes en todo el mundo, los Aliados cerraron el de Málaga al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En 1967 el Colegio se reconstituyó debido a la iniciativa del Cónsul General Juan Hoffmann que, hasta su muerte en el año 1998, ocupó el cargo de Presidente de la Junta Directiva del Patronato, además de ser un generoso patrocinador, y supo desarrollar el colegio desde unos comienzos humildes hasta el reconocimiento oficial como colegio alemán en el extranjero."
