Dillon Mitchell (basketball)

Dillon Anthony Mitchell (born October 3, 2003) is an American basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns, Cincinnati Bearcats and St. John's Red Storm.

High school career

Mitchell originally attended Sickles High School in Citrus Park, Florida for his freshman and sophomore year, then transferred to Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School in Spring Hill, Florida for his junior year before lastly transferring to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida prior to his senior year.[1][2] He was selected to play in the 2022 McDonald's All-American Boys Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.[3] He was the MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic after leading all scorers with 18 points.[4]

Recruiting

Mitchell was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2022 class, according to major recruiting services. On October 25, 2021, he committed to playing college basketball for Texas over offers from Florida State and Tennessee.[5]

College career

At Texas, Mitchell averaged 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as a freshman.[6] As a sophomore, Mitchell averaged 9.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Following the season he transferred to Cincinnati, choosing the Bearcats over Miami and Auburn.[7]

During the 2024-25 season at Cincinnati, Mitchell started in all 33 games he played, averaging 9.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 28.1 minutes a game. At the end of the season, Mitchell entered the transfer portal and signed with St. Johns.[8] He averaged 8.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game for St. John's and was named to the All-Big East Third Team, All-Defensive Team and All-Tournament Team.[9]
