Donald S. Friday (born April 17, 1968) is an American college basketball coach, and current Head Coach at Penn State University Harrisburg. Friday was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and is the son of Donald and Martha Friday. He is the eldest of two children. He has a younger sister Dawn Friday Scott. He previously served as head coach at Lycoming College (2003–2008), assistant coach at Bucknell University (1994–2003), and assistant coach at Lebanon Valley College (1990–1994). At Lebanon Valley and Bucknell, he coached under Pat Flannery, and in 1994 he assisted Flannery as Lebanon Valley won the 1994 Division III National Championship. Friday's first head coaching opportunity, he was the MAC coach of the year twice as the Men's Head Coach at Lycoming College. In May of 2008, Friday left Lycoming College for Saint Francis University of Pennsylvania. Friday's tenure at Penn State Harrisburg began on August 5th, 2013. He was hired by Director of Athletics, Rahsaan Carlton. Friday worked hard to lay a foundation at Harrisburg. The early years were not filled with many wins, but Friday and his staff worked closely with the administration to build a program that would be positioned for sustained success with graduations and wins. In 2019-20 Friday and his staff guided the Harrisburg Program to a 21-8 record and secured the program's first ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Harrisburg Defeated #8 Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md to win the program's first ever NCAA Tournament game. At the conclusion of that season, Friday was named ECAC East Region Coach of the Year. Since 2020 Penn State Harrisburg has appeared in 4 NCAA Division III Tournament Fields, (2022 24-4, 2024 25-5, 2026 18-11) with wins over Saint Joseph's Connecticut and Hood College, PSU Harrisburg has advanced to the NCAA Round of 32 three times. Harrisburg student-athletes excel in the classroom and in the community. Their mantra is "Diplomas & Championships". Friday is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He runs Central Pennsylvania Camp Hoops for Boys and Girls, and serves as a clinician with The Hoop Group. His son Donald Jr. graduated from Penn State Harrisburg in 2023 and currently coaches at York College of Pennsylvania. Don is married to the former Amy Keitsock and resides in Central Pennsylvania, with his two dachshund pets Barkley and Brady.

In recent years, these 4 Assistant Coaches who have worked with the Penn State Harrisburg program have secured full-time coaching jobs after their stints in Middletown. Jeff Frank, 2017-2022 is now at Scranton University serving as Associate Head Coach. Will Cabrera 2023-24 is now current Head Coach at Richard Bland College, Va., Andrew Shaw 2024-25 is now serving as Assistant Coach at William Peace University, NC, and Donald L. Friday Jr. is Assistant Coach at York College of Pennsylvania.
