History
In September of 2000, approximately 2,000 soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division and the North Carolina National Guard were preparing for a deployment to Bosnia and were assisted by a team from the 1179th Deployment Support Brigade. Approximately 200 containers and wheeled vehicles were packed and prepared for shipment.[2]
On 3 November 2001, the brigade held a change‑of‑command ceremony at Fort Hamilton. Col. Daniel Ganci assumed command from Col. John M. McHugh. The event received public attention due to the attendance of New York City firefighters honoring Ganci’s brother, FDNY Chief Peter J. Ganci Jr., who was killed during the September 11 attacks.[3]
