Dr Achim Berg (/ˈaːxɪm bɛʁk/; born in 1972[1] , Wiesbaden, Germany) is a German business strategist and consultant in the fashion industry. He is the founder of advisory firm FashionSIGHTS, and a former senior partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the global Apparel, Fashion & Luxury (AF&L) practice.

Career

McKinsey & Company (2000–2024)

Berg joined McKinsey & Company in 2000.[2] In 2010, he co-founded the firm’s Apparel, Fashion & Luxury (AF&L) practice, later serving as its global leader from 2015 to 2023. During his tenure, he advised brands, retailers, and manufacturers in Europe, North America, and Asia on corporate strategy, operations, and digital transformation.

Berg established McKinsey’s partnership with The Business of Fashion (BoF) and served as co-editor of the annual State of Fashion report series for seven years.[3]

He also authored McKinsey’s biannual Apparel Chief Purchasing Officer Survey and hosted industry roundtables in Hong Kong and New York.[4]

Advisory and Independent Work (2024–present)

In February 2024, Berg was appointed external advisor to Toni Ruiz, the CEO of the Spanish fashion retailer Mango.[5][6]

In 2025, Berg founded FashionSIGHTS, an advisory firm focused on the fashion and luxury sectors.[7]

Publications and media

Berg has co-authored 8 editions of The State of Fashion, an annual report analyzing global trends and market outlooks for the apparel industry.[8][9][10] He has contributed to industry publications and media outlets, including Financial Times[11], WWD, Modaes, Vogue Business, and The Business of Fashion.[12][13] In 2021, the German publication Manager Magazin referred to him as “Dr. Luxus” in a profile of his consulting work.[14]

Recognition

In 2025, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Magazin (Germany) ranked Berg tenth on its list of “Die 50 wichtigsten Deutschen in der Mode” (“The 50 Most Influential Germans in Fashion”).[15]

Residence

Berg resides in Wiesbaden and Gothenburg.
