Early life and education
Fitzalan was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.[1][2] He graduated from Iona College in 2011.[3] He initially enrolled in law school he soon discovered the profession did not align with his interests. It took three and a half years before deciding to leave his studies to pursue a career in acting. He later returned to university to study marketing, from which he graduated.[4] In 2014, Fitzalan approached a modelling agency; although they declined to represent him due to his height, they referred him to an acting agency instead.[5]
He later moved to Los Angeles at the age of 20 to pursue his acting career.[1][3] After booking his first professional role in 2017, he was flown to the United States to film a pilot for the CBS series The Get, in which he worked for eight days alongside established high profile actors. The experience, which he later described as both “the happiest yet strangest,” marked his introduction to the American industry and played a significant role in launching his career.[6] Fitzalan has spoken about learning to navigate rejection in Hollywood, noting that after several unsuccessful pilots he stopped listening to external "noise" and focused on trusting himself.[1]
Career
Fitzalan began his career appearing in short films such as I Miss You (2014) and Goodbye Kitty (2016). He also appeared in television pilots including Crash & Burn and The Get, though these projects were not picked up.[7]
In 2018, Fitzalan made his feature film debut in the horror film Slender Man, portraying Tom.[8]
At one point, he was preparing to return to Australia after struggling to establish himself abroad when he received confirmation that his fourth pilot had been picked up.[9] He gained recognition in 2019 with his role as Harry Bingham in the Netflix mystery drama series The Society.[10][1] The series was initially renewed for a second season by Netflix before being subsequently cancelled.[11][12]
In 2022, Fitzalan starred as Seth Novak in the Amazon Prime Video series The Wilds for its second season, where his performance was noted for its darker and more complex characterisation.[13]
He later appeared in the historical drama film Chevalier (2022). He has said he was immediately drawn to the script, reading it twice in one sitting.[14] The experience reignited his love for acting and film, inspiring him to work harder, and stated that if he could do projects like this for the rest of his career, he would lead a very fulfilled life.[15][14]
His additional television credits include 50 States of Fright (2020), Erotic Stories (2023), and Prosper (2024). He also starred in thriller podcast Audible exclusive Sunshadow.[16]
Modelling and fashion
Fitzalan's interest in fashion developed early through retail work. He worked for just over a year at the Australian menswear brand Jack London, after a couple months, he "completely fell in love with it" and began wearing three-piece suits to work.[1] Fitzalan has worked as a model and has been associated with several fashion brands.
He has collaborated with Prada, including participating in the 2019 Prada Re-Nylon campaign in partnership with National Geographic[17], which focused on environmental awareness and ocean sustainability. As part of the initiative, he contributed to efforts highlighting “ghost gear” (abandoned fishing equipment harmful to marine life) and worked with conservation groups involved in ocean clean-up projects.
He has appeared at fashion events and showcases for major American designers including Tommy Hilfiger[18] and Ralph Lauren Corporation. His work in fashion, combined with his acting career, has contributed to his public image as a rising figure in both industries.[2]
Personal life
He is friends with fellow Australian actor Jacob Elordi.[1][19] Outside of acting, he has expressed interest in photography and creative arts. He began developing his passion for photography on set early in his career, Fitzalan said he fell in love with taking photos that tell a story, carefully composing each shot, and hopes to one day call himself a professional photographer.[19]
