Anna Elizabeth James (born September 29, 1978) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. She is known for directing and writing independent films, including the psychological thriller Deadly Illusions (2021). She is also the founder of the production company Kiss and Tale Productions.[1]

Life and education
James was born in Greenbrae, California, and grew up in Petaluma and Sacramento. She attended Del Campo High School before pursuing filmmaking studies.[2]
She later earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.[3] While studying there, she directed the short film Haven’s Point as part of a competitive student production program.[4] During her time in graduate school, her feature screenplay I Do Over was sold to Skydance Media.[5]
Career
James began her directing career with short films including Haven’s Point (2012)[5] and Zone 2 (2015).[6] She made her feature film directorial debut with Emma’s Chance (2016), a family drama distributed by Sony Pictures.[7]
She later directed the family adventure film Destined to Ride (2018)[8] and the television film Sisters for Life (2021).[9]
James gained wider recognition for the psychological thriller Deadly Illusions (2021), which she wrote, directed, and produced under her company Kiss and Tale Productions. The film starred Kristin Davis, Dermot Mulroney, and Greer Grammer and was released globally on Netflix.[10][11][12]
In subsequent projects, James worked as a writer on the disaster film Supercell (2023)[13] and as a producer on the horror thriller Succubus (2024)[14]. She also directed and produced the thriller Held Hostage in My House (2024), starring Amy Smart, Billy Zane, and Ne-Yo.[15]
