Anthony Welmers is an American rugby union and rugby sevens player from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He has competed internationally in rugby sevens as part of the USA Men's Falcons and the United States men's rugby sevens program, and earned a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. Welmers is also a member of the United States Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP).

Early life and education
Welmers was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and began playing rugby while attending Grandville High School, transitioning to the sport after previously playing football.[1]
He attended Davenport University in Michigan, where he played for the Panthers men's rugby program from 2011 to 2016. During his collegiate career, he was part of the team that won the 2012 national championship and earned recognition as a Collegiate Rugby Sevens All-American in both 2015 and 2016. [1]
Rugby career
Following his collegiate career, Welmers continued his rugby development while serving in the Michigan Army National Guard. He was later selected for the United States Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP), which supports soldier-athletes training for international competition. [1]
USA Men's Falcons
In January 2020, Welmers was named to the USA Men's Falcons roster for the McDonald's Coral Coast Sevens tournament held in Sigatoka, Fiji. The Falcons serve as a developmental squad within the U.S. men's rugby sevens pathway and compete in international invitational tournaments. [2]
Pan American Games
Welmers represented the United States in rugby sevens at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, where the U.S. men's team finished third and earned the bronze medal. His participation was recognized as part of the U.S. Army athletes who medaled at the Games. [3]
Military service
Welmers serves in the United States Army, including service with the Michigan Army National Guard, and competes internationally through the Army's World Class Athlete Program while continuing his military career. [3]
