The film is a modern interpretation of Scandinavian mythology centered on the god Baldr, exploring themes of fate, resurrection, and the boundaries between the human and divine worlds.
Plot
The story draws from the Scandinavian myth of Baldr, son of Odin. It begins with three young men who discover an ancient warrior's grave in the forest and attempt to excavate it using spells, but the earth prevents them from disturbing his rest. They seek guidance from a mysterious sorceress, who reveals that the soul of one of the youths is the reincarnation of her son—the fallen warrior, betrayed by his beloved and driven by vengeance, who broke cosmic laws by choosing mortal rebirth.
Baldr's father, Hjärvard, raises him as a warrior, teaching him combat skills and the principles of strength and courage, dismissing magic as a woman's domain. As echoes of the past resurface, the barriers between mortal and divine realms weaken, forcing Baldr to confront forgotten oaths and choose between his father's path and his destiny to restore balance in Midgard, even if it means defying the gods.
Director Oleksandr Shvetsov describes the film as a contemporary take on myths of resurrecting gods, based on Olena Maas's screenplay.
Background
The film is inspired by Scandinavian legends and myths about Baldr. The production team aims to present a fresh perspective on ancient stories rather than a direct retelling. Olena Maas, the screenwriter and producer, is known for her work in the fantasy genre.
