History
Founding
Rajaie Edward Qubain, born in Kuwait City, Kuwait, to Jordanian parents Edward and Georgette Qubain, immigrated to the United States as a teenager and settled in the Washington, D.C. area. He earned double degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from George Mason University.[3] After working as a computer programmer — including working with his brother Munther at R. Scott Associates in Raleigh, North Carolina — Rajaie devoted five years to caring for his mother Georgette before her passing. In the years that followed, he turned his attention to automobile engineering.
Qubain's interest in VANOS systems began when he owned a BMW (reported to be an E39 528i) that experienced cold-start issues related to VANOS seals failure. Being an engineer, he chose to reverse-engineer the VANOS unit rather than pay BMW's approximately $500 (year 2005) replacement cost for a rebuilt unit — which itself used the same flawed O-ring material and was prone to premature re-failure.[1] He identified the root cause as deteriorating piston seal O-rings made from a material unsuitable for the engine environment, and developed upgraded seals using superior materials. This work led to the founding of Beisan Systems, LLC on January 31, 2007.[4]
Growth and community reputation
Over the following years, Beisan Systems grew through strong word-of-mouth within the BMW enthusiast community. Qubain became well known on BMW forums such as Bimmerforums, BimmerFest, E46 Fanatics Forum, and the NA M3 Forums, where he actively answered technical questions and provided support.[4][2] The company's detailed repair procedures, published on its website, became widely referenced guides for DIY VANOS seal replacement.[1] The company serviced thousands of customers and expanded its product line to cover multiple BMW engine variants including the M50, M52, M54, M62, S50, S52, S54, and S62 engines.
Death of founder and succession
Rajaie Qubain contracted COVID-19 in December 2021 and passed away February 25, 2022. His death prompted an outpouring of tribute from the BMW community across multiple forums and social media.[2][5] He was remembered for his engineering expertise, generous customer support, and personal warmth.
Following his passing, ownership and operation of Beisan Systems transferred to his sister, Lama Qubain (also known as Lama Munday), who is also an engineer and business owner. She has continued the operations to develop products that Rajaie had in progress at the time of his death.[2] Under her leadership, the company has maintained its reputation for quality, integrity and honesty, and personal customer service, with reviewers noting that she personally calls customers to confirm orders. She also extends support to troubleshoot engine codes and symptoms.[6]
Products and technology
Beisan Systems specializes in aftermarket VANOS components for BMW engines from the 1993–2006 model years. The company's core product line addresses a widespread design flaw in BMW's VANOS units, where factory-installed piston seal O-rings are made from a material that deteriorates under engine operating conditions, causing loss of seal integrity and VANOS unit failure.[1] BMW does not sell the seals separately, instead offering complete rebuilt VANOS units at approximately $2,600 to $3,200, which use the same flawed O-ring material and often fail again within 20,000 miles (32,000 km).[4]
Key products include:
- Upgraded VANOS piston seal O-ring kits using improved materials
- Rebuilt VANOS units incorporating upgraded seals (e.g., the BS100 S54 VANOS for E46 M3 and Z4 M)
- VANOS solenoid coil packs (e.g., the BS023 rebuilt S54 unit)
- Various VANOS seals and products for Vanos engines (M50, M52, M54, M62, S50, S52, S54, and S62)
The company operates a core exchange program, requiring customers to return original parts for a refundable core charge.[1]
Beisan Systems also publishes detailed step-by-step repair procedures on its website, which have been widely used by independent mechanics and DIY enthusiasts as reference guides for VANOS service and replacement.[1][4]

Company name
The name "Beisan" is a tribute to the Palestinian city of Beisan (known in Hebrew as Beit She'an), the hometown of the founder's mother, Georgette Qubain. Beisan (also transliterated as Baysan) is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the region, located in the Jordan Valley. The choice of name reflects Rajaie Qubain's connection to his family heritage.[3]
