History

The Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of Tigrai (EFFORT) was established in August 1995, with the legal registration certificate in 1997 in accordance with the 1960's Civil Code of Ethiopia. The initial capital used to establish EFFORT was gained from the wealth accrued during the civil war that took place for 17 years and ended up overthrowing the military regime (Derg) in Ethiopia. Throughout the war, TPLF was able to accumulate huge amount of money through donations from friends and supporters of the people of Tigray and TPLF, foreign trades, regular payment of its members, and income generating agricultural activities that were taking place in the liberated areas of Tigrai. EFFORT was, therefore, founded with the money endowed to it after the end of the war.[2]
