History and development
The origins of today's biolitec Group date back to 1988, when Dr. Wolfgang Neuberger founded CeramOptec GmbH in Bonn, Germany.[1] The company expanded internationally with branches in the USA (1989) and Malaysia (1991). Initially, CeramOptec developed and produced mainly glass fibers for applications in laser technology, sensor technology, and spectroscopy. Medical laser technology became an increasing focus in subsequent years, leading to the formation of the current biolitec Holding in 1999.[2] Since then, the group of companies has concentrated on developing and producing medical laser systems for minimally invasive treatments in specialized departments such as phlebology, proctology, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), aesthetics, and various other areas of application.
Corporate structure and subsidiaries
The company was publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange's Neuer Markt and later on the Entry Standard until 2014.[3] In December 2023, biolitec AG was converted into a limited partnership under the legal name biolitec Holding GmbH & Co. KG.[4] The group includes subsidiaries in medicine, pharmaceuticals, industry, and research, and maintains production and development sites, branches, and distribution partners in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. The company also operates clinical facilities in Milan, Dubai, and Bangkok that provide minimally invasive laser treatments.
Products and technologies
The biolitec Group develops medical laser systems and fiber-optic technologies for a variety of minimally invasive treatments. Its products are used in:
- Phlebology: treatment of varicose veins[5][6]

- Orthopedics: pain therapy for joints and spine, treatment of herniated discs
- Other areas: ENT medicine, pulmonology, thoracic surgery, and aesthetic procedures
The group also develops devices for regenerative therapy and neurostimulation, as well as components for photodynamic cancer therapy[12]. In addition to medical applications, it produces multimode quartz glass optical fibers for industry, research and medicine.
