History
The first BrianFest was held in 2013 at the Iowa City Yacht Club as a memorial celebration honoring the life and music of Brian Francis Cretzmeyer.[1]
Since its founding, the festival has been held annually and has expanded to multiple venues throughout Iowa City and nearby communities. Locations have included the Iowa City Yacht Club, the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall, North Linn Street, The Mill Restaurant, and Jerry’s Farm in Lone Tree, Iowa.
Purpose and mission
BrianFest functions as a fundraiser for the Brian Cretzmeyer Trust for Young Musicians, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young people who cannot afford music lessons.[2]
Funds raised through the festival help provide access to music education, including private lessons, youth music camps, and other educational opportunities for aspiring musicians. Some proceeds have supported programs such as the Preucil School of Music and other music education initiatives in the Iowa City area.[3]
