Brian Eule is the current President and CEO of the Heising-Simons Foundation, a private foundation working on a range of issues in the United States, including early childhood education, climate and clean energy, science, human rights, and journalism. Brian is a published author and was previously the Managing Director of FRONTLINE.[1] on PBS.

Early Life and Education

Brian Eule grew up in California. His father was a law professor.[2]

Brian received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Stanford University in 2001[3]. In 2006, he received a master’s degree from Columbia University, where he was part of the Columbia Journalism School Book Seminar.[4]

Career

Brian Eule is represented by Inkwell Management. His book, “Match Day: One Day and One Dramatic Year in the Lives of Three New Doctors”, published in 2009 by St. Martin’s Press, received positive reviews and coverage in the New York Times[5], New England Journal of Medicine[6], and TIME Magazine[7].

From 2009-2013, Brian was a program officer at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. He joined the James Irvine Foundation in 2013 as a Senior Communications Officer and later became the organization’s Director of Communications.[4]

In 2015, he joined the Heising-Simons Foundation as Director of Journalism and Communications[4]. In 2017, he created the Foundation’s American Mosaic Journalism Prize, which recognizes freelance journalists uplifting the stories of underrepresented and misrepresented groups in the United States. The American Mosaic Journalism Prize is the largest cash prize in journalism[3]

From 2024-2025, Brian was Managing Director of FRONTLINE, as well as a visiting scholar at U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Brian referred to working at FRONTLINE as “thrilling” and “a dream come true.”[1]

Brian was a Board Member at National Arts Strategies (NAS) from 2024-2025[4].[8].

In 2026, Brian returned to the Heising-Simons Foundation as President and CEO[9]
