Catalina Club, formerly known as Batemans Bay Golf Club, Catalina Country Club and Club Catalina is a golf club on the New South Wales South Coast. Catalina Club was established as Batemans Bay Golf Club in 1920.[1]

The Club comprises of a restaurant, café, sports bar, indoor and outdoor gaming area, child's play area, golf shop and a 27-hole golf course. [2]

Catalina Club's clubhouse is located approximately two kilometres south of Batemans Bay's central business district in Batemans Bay. [3]

History

Catalina Club was established in 1920 as the Batemans Bay Golf Club, with early members Eric Fenning, Eddie Fenning, A Fenning, F Ladmore, C Carter, L Sparrow, C Backhouse, E Smith and M Backhouse, and associate (lady) members Miss Devine, Mrs Ladmore, Miss Connell, Mrs Backhouse and Mrs Perry representing the golf club in a Braidwood golf tournament in 1929. [4] The Batemans Bay Golf Club was the headquarters of the Golfing South Coast and Tablelands Association.[5]

From the mid-1950's, Sydney real estate agent L.J Hooker Limited advertised land blocks for sale in the "Catalina Seaside Estate" with land reserved for an 18-hole golf course. [6]

On Sunday 17 March 1968, Catalina Country Club opened its first 18-hole course with a tournament and ceremony presented by the NSW Golf Association. [7]

Golf

Catalina Club hosted the South Coast Open, a professional golf tournament between 1975 and 1978 with prize money ranging from A$10,000 to A$15,000.

A pro-am was organised at Catalina Club by the Batemans Bay Lions Club in February 1974.[8] Vic Bennetts won with a score of 137. Prize money was A$6,000.[9] [10]

Membership

Catalina Club's Life Members are GC Baghurst, E Lassau, A Christopher, G Perry, C Gray, B Connell, J Nash, F Lassau, D Fenning, B McDonald, K McKay, N Kelly, D Scott, I Chapman, E Ablett, J McNamara, C Blume, D Wallace, K Wallace and P Criss.[11]

In 2025, the Club had reached 1,177 golf members and over 13,000 social members. 293,000 visitations were made to the Club by members and visitors in the 2024-2025 financial year.[12]
