Chloë G. K. Atkins (born 1965) is a Canadian politico-legal theorist. She is a professor of Law and Society at the University of Calgary who is on disability leave. She is also a status-only professor in the Department of Political Science, University of Toronto Scarborough. She researches and writes about health equity, disability justice and bioethics. She also employs narrative scholarship in some of her writings. Atkins is a member of the LGBTQ2S community and has generalized myasthenia gravis. She lives in Toronto, Canada with her family.

Early life and education

Atkins was born in Montreal, Canada. Her father emigrated from England where her grandfather was a renowned surgeon (Sir Hedley Atkins) and her great grandfather Sir John Bernard Atkins was also a physician. Her mother descends from Canadian, Irish, Scottish, Indigenous and French roots. Her maternal grandfather was John H. C. McGreevy for whom an elder care home (McGreevy Manor) in Quebec City is named . Her family moved to Toronto in 1970. She was educated at Bishops Strachan School in Toronto, The Master’s School (NY) and Phillips Exeter Academy (NH). She received her BA (1987), MA (1989) and PhD (2000) from the University of Toronto. The political theorist, Joseph Carens supervised her doctorate. She held a Fulbright Fellowship (1999-2000) at Cornell University Law School under the mentorship of the feminist legal scholar, Martha AlbertsonnFineman.
