During the 1980s Cameron exhibited regularly at the 369 Gallery in Edinburgh and around the UK.
In November 1987 his exhibition at the 369 Gallery was reviewed in The Herald. Alice Bain wrote under the headline “Cameron touched by magic of Chagall”.[1]
In January 1988 the Greenock Telegraph reported that Cameron had received an invitation to exhibit at the Chicago Art Fair following exhibitions in Edinburgh.[2]
In October 1989 the Greenock Telegraph published a profile of his work under the headline “Artist draws inspiration from Clyde”, referring to environmental subjects and themes connected to the River Clyde.[3]
In September 1990 he participated in Estuary a show at Hillhead Library, Glasgow. The show was organised by friend and fellow artist Tom Lamb.[4]
In 1991 Cameron exhibited at the New Academy Gallery in London. The show was titled "Equine". Listings appeared in The Guardian and The Independent.[5][6]

International projects
In 1992 Cameron participated in Spannungen at Kunststation Kleinsassen in Germany, part of Kultursommer Nordhessen 1992. The project brought together artists from 15 countries and involved the creation of a large outdoor installation using hundreds of metres of canvas. This work gave a clear echo to the recently fallen Berlin wall.[9]
