History
The Coast Guard Exchange traces its origins to small ship stores and commissaries established during the early 20th century to support Coast Guard personnel. Over time, these operations evolved into a formal exchange system. CGX has expanded its footprint to include brick-and-mortar stores at major Coast Guard installations and an online shopping platform, ShopCGX.com, to serve members nationwide.
Mission and Purpose
CGX exists to enhance the quality of life for Coast Guard members, their families and other authorized patrons by providing affordable goods and services. Profits generated by CGX are reinvested into Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation (MWR) programs, which fund activities and facilities that support service members and families.
CGX has 24/7 access to shopping and savings online at ShopCGX.com and CGXpress self-checkout micromarts. The Deployable Support Exchange (DSE) and Mobile Support Exchange (MSE) provide on-site services to members during disaster response and recovery events. CGX also has management oversight of 46 Satellite Exchanges on board USCG Cutters stationed throughout the USCG theatre of operations.
