History
According to the company's historical account, Pedro Forno Damonte, an Italian immigrant, acquired a confectionery shop owned by Germans beside the now-demolished Teatro Victoria on Pedro Montt Avenue in 1937 and established Confites Forno.[2] The same account states that the business initially used recipes inherited from the previous owners and later expanded its range with technology brought from Italy.[2]
Company materials also state that Salvador Forno later joined the firm and that the family acquired another premises known as El Sueño Dorado M.R., named after one of its products.[2] A larger factory was later opened on Uruguay Street, where the company broadened its output to include fruit gummies and whipped confectionery such as malvas, Tolines M.R. and coconut marshmallows.[2]
The company's account further states that, in the early 1970s, Confites Forno opened its current industrial plant in the Almendral sector of Valparaíso, at Quito 72.[2] In 2023 the company was included in the research and exhibition project Memoria Industrial de Valparaíso, which surveyed industries still active in the Barón and Almendral sectors of the city.[3][4][5]
