History
Cornitos was launched in 2009 by Vikram Agarwal and Greendot Health Foods in India, with its initial product being triangle‑shaped corn‑based nacho chips. At its launch, the pricing was significantly higher than typical chips: the brand entered the market when common snack packs were priced at Rs 10, while Cornitos introduced its packs around Rs 100. By around 2016 the brand had become a “Rs 40‑crore brand” in India’s snack segment. Over time, Cornitos expanded its product range beyond nachos to include wraps, taco shells, nuts & seeds, dips and a newer sub‑brand called “Crusties” launched in 2022 (zigzag‑shaped extruded snacks) and further development in 2024 with puff‑ball variants.[4][5][6]
Business and marketing
Cornitos has positioned itself as a premium snack brand. The company emphasises attributes such as frequent gluten‑free formulations and its products being made with natural ingredients and made cholesterol free.[1][6] They target a consumer segment willing to pay more for snack variants rather than volume price‑driven snack packs.[6] Initially focusing on modern trade channels, the company expanded more broadly and created an international presence, selling products in the United States, China, Singapore, and Southeast Asia.[6]
Products
Cornitos’ products include:
- Nacho Crisps: the original triangle shaped corn‐based snack.[5][6]
- Crusties: A newer line of extruded snacks in a zigzag shape (launched in 2022) and further developed into puff shapes (2024).[4]
- Tortilla Wraps/Taco Shells: wraps and shells for taco‐style snacks.[5][4]
- Nuts & Seeds: roasted nuts, seeds snack formats.[5]
- Dips & Mexican Delights: product categories to be eaten with nachos and wraps.[7]
Awards and recognition
At the SIAL Innovation Paris 2022 event, Cornitos’ Crusties (Bean Baked Snacks – Lemon Chili flavour) won the Diploma Certificate.[4]
At the UK Free From Food Awards 2021, Cornitos achieved 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze awards across its free‑from products.[4]
