Detroit punk is a proto-punk and punk rock music scene that originated in Detroit Michigan, as well as it's surrounding suburbs. Emerging in the late 1960s and early 1970s with bands such as the MC5, the Up, the Stooges, Destroy All Monsters, Death, and Sonic's Rendezvous Band. The scene also inspired other early Michigan punk bands such as the Dogs and the Punks.

The movement was influential to the development of early punk rock scenes in New York and Cleveland, with later Detroit-based punk bands emerging in the 1980s to 1990s, such as Negative Approach, the Gories and Dirtbombs.
