Technology publications have described Dify as part of a category of platforms intended to operationalize large language model applications and simplify the development of generative artificial intelligence systems. The platform supports collaborative development environments, and applications created with Dify can be deployed as web-based interfaces such as chatbots or integrated into external systems through application programming interfaces (APIs).[2]
Overview
Dify is designed to support the development, deployment, and management of applications built on large language models. The platform integrates development tools, orchestration systems, and operational infrastructure for generative AI applications, and supports collaborative development across multiple users within shared environments.
Applications built on Dify can be deployed as web-based interfaces, including chatbot-style applications, or exposed as application programming interfaces (APIs) for integration into external systems and services.[3]
Independent technology coverage has described Dify as a platform positioned between model providers and application layers, supporting workflow-based automation and knowledge-grounded applications.[4]
History
The Dify project was established in March 2023 alongside the founding of LangGenius, Inc. The platform was initially released as a hosted software-as-a-service (SaaS) product, followed by the publication of its open-source version on GitHub.
During 2024, the project gained visibility within the open-source ecosystem. Technology publication TechCrunch included LangGenius in its list of the “20 hottest open-source startups of 2024,” citing the development of the Dify platform.[5] Independent coverage in Japanese technology media also described the platform and its use in AI application development.[6]
In 2025, LangGenius released version 1.0.0 of the platform and expanded the developer ecosystem around the project. During the same year, the open-source repository surpassed 100,000 stars on GitHub.[7]
In 2026, LangGenius raised approximately $30 million in a Series Pre-A funding round to support further development of the Dify platform and expansion of enterprise AI infrastructure.[8][9] Industry coverage also reported enterprise adoption of the platform and expansion of its ecosystem in international markets, including Japan.[10]
