In 2017, he was appointed Fashion Editor of ELLE South Africa, becoming the first black male and non-South African to hold the role in the magazine's South African edition.[2][3] In 2018, he was promoted to Fashion Director.[4]
Alara has received industry recognition for his work as a stylist, including Fashion Stylist of the Year at the FAB Awards in 2012 and Fashion brand stylist of the Year at the Spice TV Lifestyle Honours in 2018.[5][6]
He has worked in fashion editorial, styling, and creative direction. He has also been covered in Vogue in connection with his creative collaboration with designer Omar Salam.[7]
