Born in Iganga District in Uganda’s Eastern Region,[3] Dokta Brain is widely recognised in Uganda’s music industry as a prolific songwriter who has written chart-topping hits for major Ugandan artists including Bebe Cool, Winnie Nwagi, Sheebah Karungi, and Fille.[3] He has won the Galaxy FM Zzina Award for Best Songwriter four consecutive times (2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026).[4][5][6][7]
Early life
Career
Songwriter (2014–2021)
Dokta Brain officially entered the music industry in 2014.[2] He has described competing as a new songwriter against established names including the late Mowzey Radio, Nince Henry, and Yesse Oman Rafiki.[2]
His breakthrough came when he wrote ‘‘Musawo’’ for Winnie Nwagi, which became one of Uganda’s most recognisable songs of the mid-2010s.[3] He subsequently wrote extensively for Sheebah Karungi, with credits including “Kisaasi Kimu”, “Binkolera”, and “Beera Nange”.[10] His other songwriting credits from this period include work for Bebe Cool, Fille, Rema Namakula, Diana Nalubega, Spice Diana, and Aziz Azion, among others.[8][3]
He also performed during this period as part of the duo ‘’‘Hatim and Dokey’’’, releasing collaborative material.[8]
In early 2024, Dokta Brain publicly acknowledged his decade of behind-the-scenes work via social media, posting a video on TikTok with the caption “Served my time, I’ll let other writers shine.”[3] The post drew widespread attention within Uganda’s music community.
Solo artist (2022–present)
Having established himself as a songwriter, Dokta Brain stepped forward as a solo recording artist. He released the album ‘‘Elizabella’’ (2017), a 14-track project exploring love, heartbreak, and emotional growth, followed by ‘‘Downtown Baller’’ (2024), a 7-track project centred on street culture and ambition.[10]
In January 2025, his collaboration “Go Go Mama” with Rema Namakula, produced by Bass Boi, was reported to be performing strongly on Ugandan music charts.[11]
In March 2025, he signed with the Zhafar Music Agency. Founder Haruna Zhafar described the partnership as bringing “unique sound and artistic vision” aligned with the agency’s mission to develop Ugandan talent.[1] Around the same time, he revealed plans for a 7-track EP featuring 14 rising vocalists, to be distributed freely.[10]
In 2025, he released the ‘‘VaT EP’’ (’‘Vibes and Themes’’), a 5-track project exploring self-expression and emotional resilience.[12]
Dokta Brain has also commented publicly on the Ugandan music industry, arguing that Eddy Kenzo’s BET Award win for ‘‘Sitya Loss’’ shifted the country’s musical direction away from urban, internationally oriented sounds toward Luganda-language music.[13]
