Edgar Labat was a black man. He was wrongfully accused of rape, spending 13 years in death row[1] before being freed in December 1969[2].

Early Life
Career
Edgar Labat was employed at the Touro Infirmary.[3]
Conviction
Edgar Labat and Clifton Alton Poret were convicted of raping a young white woman in New Orleans in 1950 and sentenced to death in 1953.
They won nine stays of execution.[1] They were acquitted by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1966, who ruled that Edgar Labat and Clifton Poret were not given a fair trial by an all-white jury system.[1][3]
