He won the Nikon Photo Contest 2012-2013 prize with the photograph "Communication."
He has been active in Milan's photography scene at the Rotonda di Piazza Besana since 1972. He graduated in architecture in 1978, and after visiting all of Europe, he took his first trip to Asia, Iran, and Afghanistan in 1974. He has devoted considerable time to documenting the Southern African Region, Northern Europe, and Asia.
He has compiled several volumes of travel reportage: Vietnam, Australia, Bangkok, Southern Africa, Japan, Mustang, Accordi, and Photo Tales.
He writes on the subject of photography for various newspapers and magazines and was invited to join National Geographic Expeditions[1] to plan and lead photography-themed trips.
Art Career
Edoardo Miola specializes in documentary and conceptual photography. Although he began his photographic career with documentary photography, he has also expanded into reportage, still life, architecture, and portraits. He started to participate in international competitions in 1980 and was awarded second place in the 2012-2013 Nikon photography competition with "Communication", in the "Single Shot" category[2] (selected from over 100,000 submissions and 33,000 competitors). His photograph "Skeleton Coast" won first prize in the "My Life Style" category at the 2015 Mia Photo Fair in Milan. Other photos of his have been awarded at the "Oasis Photo Contest" and are included in "Photo Thales" (Wild Photo Stories from Africa).
Many of his photographs are part of the Alidem Collection, as well as other private collections and photography galleries.
His curators define him as a "straight photographer". In fact, to Edoardo Miola, reality as photographed, always contains an interpretation, however this must not override the objective elements that constitute the scene. Miola has exhibited his works and writes for various photography magazines, including "PhotoVideoAcademy," and his interviews have appeared in "Il Fotografo[3]," "FP Magazine," "Osservatorio Digitale[4]," "PhotoVogue[5]," "Il Corriere 7," "La Repubblica," and "Panorama," among others. He has published several photography books: "Soi Cowboy" (preface by Steve McCurry), "AustralAfrica," "Mustang, a Borderland Fate," and "Accordi" (preface by Philippe Daverio).
Personal Life
Miola was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1954, where he currently resides. He holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Genoa.
In 2018, he received the MAM (Master of Arts and Crafts) award for his work in design, architecture, and model building craftmanship. Miola continues to collect images during his travels, which have led him to explore much of the globe.
