Early life and education
Poe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1994. Later, in 2002 he received his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law.[4] He is a licensed attorney and a certified public accountant.[5]
Career
Poe joined CURE Auto Insurance and NJ PURE Insurance in 1994.[6] CURE Auto Insurance was founded by Poe's mother and stepfather, a former New Jersey insurance commissioner, in 1990 during New Jersey's auto insurance affordability crisis.[7] He later became the company's chief executive officer.[8][9] Under his leadership, the company expanded to more than 400 employees and extended its services to Pennsylvania and Michigan.[10] He has previously served as chief operating officer for the company.[11]
Poe led CURE Auto Insurance's expansion into Michigan in July 2021, following the passage of Michigan's 2019 no-fault auto insurance reform law.[12][13]
Poe has been an outspoken advocate for auto insurance reform[14] and in 2008 and 2020, he testified before the United States House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services on issues regarding auto insurance scoring and affordability.[15][2]
Awards and recognition
In 2004, Poe was awarded NJBIZ's 40 Under 40 award.[6] In 2019, he was awarded the 'Commitment and Achievement Award' by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey.[16][17]
He was also awarded the 'Leaders in Law' award by NJBIZ in 2021.[18] In 2025, Poe was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's Most Admired CEOs.[19]
