From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Farmer J is a UK-based fast-casual restaurant chain, specialising in health-focused, scratch-cooked meals made from seasonal and high-welfare ingredients. It was founded in 2014 and now has multiple locations across London.

History

Farmer J was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Recanati and his wife Ali following his career as an analyst at Deutche Bank.:[1] In his time in the City, Recanati was dissatisfied with the available lunch and dinner options, which he found bland and low quality.[2]

Though the chain was formally launched in 2014, its first brick-and-mortar restaurant opened in 2016 on Leadenhall Street, in London's Square Mile. From there, it expanded to sites in King William Street and other central London areas.[3]

In 2019, Farmer J secured £1.9 million in investment from Imbiba to aid expansion.[4] In 2024, the brand raised £5.5 million from venture capital firm Beringea to support further growth including in the U.S. market. In October 2025, Farmer J announced that they had secured £17.5m in funding to launch its first New York flagship later that year.[5]
