Ownership and background

Fjuel Bodø AS is owned by Bodø Energi AS (51%) and Bodø Havn KF (49%). Both owners are municipally owned companies in [[Bodø municipality]]. Rakel Hunstad serves as CEO. The purpose of the partnership is to ensure that critical energy infrastructure on the port's premises is established, further developed and kept under local ownership.[1]

Operations

The company's core activity is to deliver and operate shore power installations that allow vessels to connect to the local electricity grid while berthed. This reduces the use of ships' diesel engines during port calls, contributing to lower local emissions and noise levels.

Fjuel Bodø operates four berth sections with a total of seven power outlets at Bodø harbour. The installations serve vessels in regular service, including Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages, and comply with international standards such as NEK IEC PAS 80005-3.[2]

The company also works on charging infrastructure for heavy electric vehicles and on developing Bodø harbour as an energy hub through the project Masterplan for Energy. Nordland County Municipality awarded Fjuel Bodø NOK 800,000 towards the project in 2023.[3]

Projects and funding

In 2023, Fjuel Bodø received a grant of NOK 13.12 million from Enova to develop charging infrastructure for the North Norway Line – a planned fully electric cargo ferry route between Bodø and Tromsø being investigated by ASKO Maritime AS. The planned route would require a charging installation with a capacity of 6 MW, using DC charging technology with the MCS standard at Bodø harbour, Rødskjær harbour (Harstad) and Tromsø harbour.[4][5]

The Fjuel concept

Fjuel Bodø is part of a wider network of companies operating under the Fjuel brand, which includes Fjuel Tromsø (owned by Troms Kraft and Tromsø Port Authority) and Fjuel Trondheim (owned by Trondheim Port Authority). The Fjuel companies offer IoT-based monitoring and management of shore power and charging infrastructure, system-agnostic platform solutions and energy data integration for port operators.[6]
