History
Paul Scantlebury and his brother launched Flicks in 2005 as an online cinema guide for New Zealand, providing nationwide showtimes for all movie theatres alongside reviews of the latest films.[2]
Since then, Flicks has also added listings for over-the-top streaming platforms and expanded into Australia.
Vista Group acquired Flicks in 2016 for an undisclosed sum.[3]
Features
Flicks is available to use for everyone. Members can also create watchlists and receive notifications when a movie becomes available to watch in their region.

In addition to session times, each movie listing includes a brief synopsis, trailer, genre tag, Rotten Tomatoes rating, Letterboxd rating, cast and crew credits, and age rating.

Flicks’ sports guide is currently available only in New Zealand and Australia.
Editorial
Flicks regularly publishes film and television reviews, guides for what to watch, and interviews.
In 2018, Flicks conducted a survey with Australian film critics to create a list of the top 25 Australian films, where Mad Max: Fury Road took first place.[4]
In 2021, Flicks conducted an online survey among its New Zealand users that ranked Breaking Bad as the best television series of all time. A similar survey was conducted in Australia, where Breaking Bad also took first place.[5][6]
