Draft:For the Rest of Your Life (album)
2024 studio album by Twikipedia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the Rest of Your Life[b] is the second studio album by Brazilian artist Twikipedia, released independently on May 10, 2024,[5][6] with some platforms listing the release date as May 9, 2024.[7] This album marks a significant evolution in Twikipedia's musical style, blending elements of shoegaze, indie rock, and noise-pop.
For the Rest of Your Life was made available on various formats, including digital platforms,[7][5][6] CD-R,[2] Cassete[8] and LP/vinyl.[3] "Windchimes" a song from the album was featured in Stereogums' Best Shoegaze Songs Of 2024 List.[9]
Background
The album was first announced at the same time as still-life was announced,[10] on December 9, 2023. In those posts, Twikipedia mentioned that while working on their EP, they were simultaneously working on their next album.[10] In an interview with Jellybones, twikipedia stated that the cover art for the album originated from a South Korean missile test image on Google.[1]
Release and promotion
On March 6, 2024, they shared that only a few songs remained to be finished.[11] Then, on April 19, 2024, the album's name, cover, and tracklist were officially revealed.[12] On May 10, For the Rest of Your Life would be released to all digital streaming platforms,[5][6] for some May 9th.[7] The album was also released on CD-R and vinyl by Reasonable Records on June 21, 2024.[2][8] The casette tape would then later release on January 1, 2025.[8] The vinyl edition was released in two variants: opaque blue and a teal clear blue. Upon release, it gained traction and received genereally positive reviews from critics.[13]
Composition
For the Rest of Your Life features elements of indie rock, pop-punk, and classic 1960s music,[13] a switch from twikipedia's original style of music.[14][b] While Doth Music's Frank Ude said that it was punk and shoegaze. Eli Enis commented on Twikipedia's influence from Parannoul for the album, especially in the use of VSTs.[15][16]
Critcal reception
Writing for Cult Following, Ewan Gleadow would comment on the album, saying "bold and extensive feel of an artist reaching out with their gut feeling."[14][18] Frank Ude of Doth Music said the album is a "punk and shoegaze" combined record that "balances peacefulness with an attention-challenging edge."[17] Chris Deville of Stereogum said the vocal melodies rise beautifully, the arrangements are compelling, and the energy remains strong even during the more "subdued moments".[13] Eli Enis on his Chasing Sundays blog called it "one of the most innovative and pretty shoegaze albums [he] heard in a minute."[15]
