According to the foundation, it is made up of the Argentine Society of Writers, the Argentine Chamber of Books, the Argentine Chamber of Publications, the Books and Magazines Section of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, the Argentine Federation of the Graphic Industry and Related Trades, and the Argentine Federation of Booksellers, Stationers and Related Trades.[1]

History

In September 2018, María Teresa Carbano became the first woman to preside over the foundation in more than four decades.[2] During the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina, the cancellation of the 2020 Buenos Aires International Book Fair prompted national press coverage of the foundation's finances and of alternative programming organized in response to the suspension.[3][4]

Activities

Among the foundation's main activities are the Buenos Aires International Book Fair and the Feria del Libro Infantil y Juvenil.[1][7] It also organizes literary and cultural distinctions, including the Premios Pregonero for the promotion of children's and young adult literature, the Premio de la Crítica presented during the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, and a literary competition for unpublished short-story collections.[8][9][10]

Recognition

In 1988, the foundation received a Diploma al Mérito of the Konex Awards in the "Cultural foundations" category.[11]
