Dr. Funmilola Oluwafemi is currently a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at the Nigerian Space Agency – National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja, Nigeria [1]. Her research areas spans through space life sciences, gravitational-biology, space biochemistry, bioastronautics, and Isolated, Confined and Extreme (ICE) environments research.[1] She is currently the Principal Investigator and the Leading Expert of microgravity research at the Space Life Sciences Division, NASRDA, Nigeria.[1] She won simulated-microgravity equipment called “Clinostat” from United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Austria in 2015.[1]

Early life and education
Funmilola holds a Ph.D in biochemistry with thesis on simulated microgravity and biochemical characterization of plants from Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Oye-Ekiti in 2024; [1] an MSc. in biochemistry (membrane biochemistry and biotechnology) from University of Ibadan in 2011; [1] and a BSc. in biochemistry from Bowen University in 2008; all in Nigeria.[1]

UNOOSA engagements
Funmilola is a United Nation’s Space and Global Health (SGH) Network member. She contributed to the SGH Curriculum International Taskforce established by United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), to standardize education on how space technologies can tackle pressing global health challenges to boost healthcare-delivery [2]. She has attended diverse UNOOSA Space conferences in Germany [3], France [4] [5], and at Austria [6] [7][8]. She served as a rapporteur of “The Benefits of Space for All Session” at the United Nations/Austria, World Space Forum: ‘Access to Space for All’, Vienna International Centre (VIC), Vienna, Austria, 2019. SGAC engagements
Funmilola is an alumna of Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC). She was an organizing Team member (Delegates Officer) of the 2nd African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW) of the SGAC with workshop theme “Launching Africa: Space Exploration, Innovation and Business” held at Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC), Port-Louis, Mauritius, 2018[9]. She co-authored diverse publications during her SGAC engagements in diverse research projects; which are now selected project works.[10]

Awards
Dr. Funmilola is a winner of Zonta Amelia Earhart Women in Aerospace award for the year 2022.[20] Amelia Earhart Fellowships are awarded annually to women pursuing a PhD or doctoral degree conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences.
She is a Round 4 Climate, Food and Farming – Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Development Scholarships (CLIFF-GRADS) program 2020 awardee. She was a CLIFF-GRADS Visiting Research Fellow at the College of Agriculture, Hawassa University, Hawassa, Ethiopia.[21]
