History

Omar Ghanem and Mostafa Salem established the organization in 2021. Initially, it operated as Polkastarter Gaming (a sub-division of the Polkastarter network) focused on the crypto-gaming sector.[3] A standalone discovery interface launched in late 2022.

In September 2023, the entity rebranded to GAMES.GG. Coinciding with this restructuring, it secured $2 million in seed funding (led by Mechanism Capital).[4] Post-rebrand updates expanded the database to index traditional video games by pulling metadata from external storefronts.

Forbes Middle East listed the founders in the 2025 "30 Under 30" ranking (Sports & Lifestyle category).[5]

Platform and services

The website functions as an aggregator. Its database contains over 1,000 game profiles comprising reviews, guides, and news.

Technical features include account synchronization with digital distributors (like Steam and the Epic Games Store). This aggregates library data and playtime statistics into a unified dashboard.[1] The service maintains a "quest" system where users earn experience points (XP) for completing platform interactions.

GAM3 Awards

The company organizes the GAM3 Awards. The inaugural ceremony in December 2022 occurred virtually; it distributed a prize pool of $1 million.[6]

Subsequent editions utilized physical venues and expanded in scope. Through a partnership with Yield Guild Games, the awards took place in Manila, Philippines, in 2024 and 2025.[7] The 2025 event reported a total prize pool of $7 million.[2]

"Game of the Year" winners include Big Time (2022), Parallel (2023), and Off The Grid (2024).[8][9] Jury panels have included staff from traditional gaming studios, including Rockstar Games and Ubisoft.[2]

Reception

In 2023, The National profiled the startup. The publication described it as a regional alternative to IGN focused on blockchain integration.[1] VentureBeat has covered the GAM3 Awards annually, tracking the scale of its prize pools and the participation of mainstream industry executives on its voting jury.[2]
