Introduction

Gentari Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysian clean energy solutions provider and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the national group, PETRONAS. They are headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and was established in 2022 to lead the parent group's commercial transition towards a low-carbon economy.[1] The name Gentari comes from the English word "Generation" and the malay word "Lestari" which means sustainable.

Gentari is structured around three strategic pillars such as Renewable energy, Hydrogen, and Green Mobility. The company's stated 2030 targets include achieving 30-40 GW[2] of installed renewable energy capacity and capturing a 10% market share of public electric vehicle (EV) charging points in key regional markets.

History and Strategic Expansion

In order to combine PETRONAS's numerous clean energy projects, the firm was first announced in June 2022 and formally established as an autonomous corporation in September of the same year. A veteran of the energy sector, Sushil Purohit[3], was named the company's first CEO in January 2023 to oversee its global expansion.

Significant international alliances and acquisitions have been hallmarks of Gentari's growth. After acquiring Wirsol Energy[4] in February 2023. the firm changed its name to Gentari Solar Australia and entered the Australian market. In December 2023, Gentari made a significant foray into the offshore wind industry by purchasing a 49% share in Northland Power's ownership of the Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan[5], which is one of the biggest offshore wind facilities in Asia.

Core Operational Pillars

Renewable Energy and Infrastructure

Utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) are the main components of Gentari's renewable portfolio. The corporation reported a total built and under-construction capacity of about 8.4 GW worldwide as of late 2024[6].

Integrating renewable energy into the digital infrastructure industry is a key component of Gentari's strategy. Gentari and Gamuda Berhad[7] worked together in August 2025 to create a 1.5 GW solar-plus-storage portfolio intended especially to power hyperscale data centres. The Malaysian Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS)[8] framework, which permits corporations to directly contract renewable energy with developers, was used to built this project.

Hydrogen and Ammonia Development

Gentari has announced projects and partnerships relating to clean hydrogen and green ammonia development across the Asia-Pacific region. Gentari and SEDC Energy[9] are collaborating in East Malaysia to build the Sarawak Hydrogen hub in Bintulu, which wll act as a hub for production and export to North Asian markets.

Through a collaboration with AM Green and GIC[10], Gentari maintains a significant green ammonia platform in India. An important step toward the creation of a worldwide green energy supply corridor was taken in January 2026 when this business signed a legally binding long-term offtake deal with Germany's Uniper for 500,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia per year.

Green Mobility Ecosystem

A regional roaming network for EV charging is overseen by Gentari's green mobility division. By March 2026, the company's Gentari Go platform had over 610 charging stations in Malaysia and over 9,000 roaming locations in Malaysia[11], Singapore and Thailand.

Gentari changed its infrastructure plan in 2026 to give intercity high-speed connectivity top priority[12]. To support the expanding mass-market EV sector and intercity movement. This effort upgraded existing locations such as the PETRONAS Penchala Link, from 24kW to 200kW DC fast-charging stations.
