Takashi Yamazaki wrote his first English-language screenplay, and began shopping it for further development with J. J. Abrams and Glen Zipper at Bad Robot. With a commitment to a theatrical release and its ties to Japan, Sony Pictures won the rights for the film and greenlit the project in November 2024.[1]
