Early life and career
Heidi Curtis was born in North Shields, England.[3] Her first performance was at a buskers night at the Tynemouth Surf Café at the age of 13,[4] where she would later perform her "first ever gig with a proper band" as a support for Kit Trig.[5]
She was first publicised on 14 August 2020, having opened for Sam Fender at the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Gosforth Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, where she performed covers including Edge of Seventeen.[6] Her first headline gig was at the Tynemouth Surf Cafe some time following September that year.[4] She performed at several venues from 2021–2023, including as an opener for Ben Howard at the Boiler Shop, Newcastle upon Tyne[7] and as support for Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini,[5] The Snuts[5][8] and Paul Weller.[9][10] During an interview with Dork in November 2025, she said of this time "To be stood alongside some of those amazing names at such an early point in my career, it really was getting thrown into the deep end. I was so excited about it and learned so much [...] it showed me where my songs had to be."[3] She performed at Neighbourhood Weekender and TRNSMT in mid-2023,[11][12][13] going on to support Inhaler at AFAS Live Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and the Astra Kulturhaus, Berlin, Germany, in October that year.[14][15]
Undone and Siren (2025–2026)
Her debut single, Undone, released in November 2025,[3][16] and was featured on Rolling Stone UK's Hot New Songs playlist for the week of 28 November–5 December,[17] Wonderland's Wonderlist on 5 December[18] and the BBC's North East ones to watch in 2026.[19] During her November 2025 interview with Dork, she said she wrote Undone "about a year and a bit [prior]" following the loss of her grandmother, who she was close with, stating "That was my first experience of really losing somebody I really loved, and it made my whole perspective on life just completely shift. The songs at the time were super inward, emotional, and I felt a little bit like I’d stripped myself of everything I’d known before, it had all changed overnight almost, everything that made me me. I started to think about the rest of my life a lot more." She said that "out of nowhere [...] Undone just suddenly came over my shoulder."[3] She wrote Undone over the course of a month with the backing of Sam Fender's management team, OD Management,[3][16] saying that it helped her "deal with the change of what I was going through, and it gave me focus on the person I really wanted to become."[3]
Initially recording with Joe Atkinson and Dean Thompson, she later began recording with Damn Hume at Hymn Studios, Wales. After recording a few tracks however, she decided to self-produce. Speaking of the release of Undone, she said "For a new artist, a lot of the pressure can be on the first release [...] But instead, I’m thinking: where do I want to be in 10 years' time? Always thinking ahead seems to be the common practise for a lot of these artists and that’s easy for me." She further stated that "it feels like it blew the doors [...] open, and everything’s spawning from this singular place [...] it made me feel untethered, free and wild, like nothing’s impossible. It’s powerful, it’s driving the rest of the material.” Speaking of her headline performance at The Cluny, Newcastle upon Tyne, she said "In the room the other night, it was so beautiful because it was like my own show. There was no outside stress about time or about backdrop. I could curate the whole thing to be exact, as if everybody was in my room, my dream kind of environment."[3]
Her second single, Siren, was released on January 22 the following year, paired with an announcement that she had signed with AWAL that day. Speaking of the release, she described the single as "[...] a vicious love story between a Siren and a sailor. However, underneath the story lies a deeper metaphor about a person and their vices. The siren in the song merely represents our desire as a species to turn to substance and pleasure, in order to soothe and numb our depressions. We've all seen the Siren and felt that pull towards her, some more than others, and no matter what it always ends badly. Inspired by my love of the sea, my heritage, connection to the water and folk myth, 'Siren' was born."[16] Siren was featured on the 23 January 2026 issue of DIY Magazine's Neu Bulletin,[20] while Curtis was featured on NME's 100 Featured Artists of 2026.[21][22] She was scheduled to perform at the Mouth of the Tyne, The Great Escape and Radio 1's Big Weekend festivals in 2026.[23][24][25]
