Draft:Holmes: Next Generation

Canadian home renovation television show From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Holmes: Next Generation is a 2018 Canadian home renovation series, originally airing on the DIY Network in the United States[1] and on CTV Life in Canada in 2020[2]. It features general contractor Mike Holmes and two of his children: middle child Sherry and youngest child Michael. Like previous Holmes series, the Holmes family, alongside their construction crew, help homeowners in need by repairing their home. Like the previous series Holmes and Holmes, significant attention is made to the Holmes family dynamic.

This is the second Holmes series commissioned primarily for an American audience, after 2016's Holmes: Buy it Right[3], though all episodes continue to take place within the Greater Toronto Area.

Though both Sherry and Michael have been working for their father for at least ten years each, this is the first Holmes series to have Sherry in a presenter role and not as a mere member of the crew. This is the first series where Michael is credited under that name instead of "Mike Holmes Jr.", though he continues to refer to himself by that name.

Crew

Some of the members of the Holmes Crew have appeared on previous Holmes shows. Unlike previous series, however, less emphasis is placed on the crew providing exposition in favor of having Sherry and Michael do most of the presentation:

  • Nichole Faucher is a veteran of the Holmes Crew, having joined during the second season of Holmes Inspection in 2011. Though formally having left the Holmes Group in 2014 at the end of Holmes Makes it Right, she returns for this series.
  • Andrew Evans is another veteran of the Holmes Crew, having joined in the first season of Holmes Makes it Right in 2012. He, too, had left the Holmes Group in 2014, but returned for this series.
  • Daniel Vella is the owner of a finish carpentry business that has previously worked on Holmes Makes it Right and Holmes and Holmes as a subcontractor (and would appear in future series in both capacities), but is credited as both a subcontractor and a Holmes Crew member in different episodes in this series.

In addition, Derek Ullman, though not credited as a Holmes Crew member in any episode of the series (the only series since his introduction in 2012's Holmes Makes it Right and his departure in 2021's Holmes Family Effect), appears in the reconstruction efforts on some episodes.

Like previous Holmes shows, they are joined by a group of recurring subcontractors, depending on the needs of the project involved. However, these featured subcontractors are no longer credited with the business they are associated with (their businesses continued to be credited within the end credits for each episode), only being listed with their area of expertise.
