Draft:Huckleberry Island

Island in the Parry Sound waters From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Huckleberry Island is an island in the northern waters of the Parry Sound. It is roughly 800 acres (~325 Hectares) across, making it the one of the largest islands in the sound, behind Parry Island. The island sits within The Canadian Shield, a large slab of granite, biotite, Gneiss,[1] and other minerals formed due to glacial activity during glacial period.[2]

  • Comment: As a geographic natural feature, then this island is going to be notable under WP:NATFEAT. However we still need some sourcing. Here we have two blog site entries, one of which has official support, and two primary sources. So it's a bit light on sources. A search of "Huckleberry Island Ontario history" does provide additional sources. So I hope the submitting editor can add one or two more sources here. Huckleberry island is most well known for the Hole in the Wall jumping rocks, a famous location in the Parry Sound area, sitting between Wall island and Huckleberry island.[3]

The island is mostly Crown land, with a few summer cottages scattered along the shores of the island. Many people owning boats tend to camp on the public land of the island,[4] as there are no roads leading to the island, making it only accessible by boat.
