Draft:International Congress of Basic Science
Annual Academic Meeting for Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, and Computer Science
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) held at the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications in Beijing, China is an annual event bringing together mathematicians, theoretical physicists, and theoretical computer scientists to present and celebrate academic work in their respective fields.[1][2][3][4][5][6]. The event largely takes place on the campus of the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications, which is located in Huairou, Beijing, about 50 kilometers north of the city center and situated next to the Great Wall of China. The event attracts more than 1000 participants annually and its roster of participants includes celebrated Fields medalists, Turing Award winners, and Nobel laureates. Aside from giving awards to recognize great lifetime achievements, the event also highlights recent research and consists of two weeks of lectures, ceremonies, and other events such as a high-school poster presentation.[7] In 2023, speaking on the impact of such an event, Shing-Tung Yau has noted that heretofore no event on this scale had been hosted in China for basic science.[8] The event reflects the greater tendency for China to invest in basic science and attract international collaboration in recent years.[9]

Comment: No sources added since last decline due to lack of established notability. Jcgaylor (talk) 04:54, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
Comment: There's issues with citation formats and titling, but that aside, the more fundamental issue is that none of the added sources are about the organisation itself, rather than various peripherals such as the awardees (which nobody doubts is notable). Moreover, see WP:BOSS. 你需要使用至少三个以此会仪为题的报章报道为资料来源,而不是关于某科学家得奖的例行报道,或关于得奖者的其他资料。 Fermiboson (talk) 12:56, 26 December 2025 (UTC)

It has been held annually since July, 2023 and is hosted by a scientific committee including Nima Arkani-Hamed, Caucher Birkar, Bong Lian, Juan Maldacena, Dai Qionghai, Nicolai Reshetikhin, Subir Sachdev, Joseph Sifakis, Andrew Yao, and Shing-Tung Yau which is chaired by Shing-Tung Yau with the proceedings published annually by the International Press of Boston.[10] The event enjoys government funding and close collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications and Tsinghua University especially through the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center.[11]
One of the most notable events of the ICBS is the awarding of the Basic Science Lifetime Award (BSLA),[12][13][14][15] presented to researchers in mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer science who have had a profound impact on their respective fields over the last 30 years. Previous awardees have included David Mumford, Adi Shamir, Edward Witten, Alexei Kitaev, Andrew Wiles, Richard S. Hamilton, [16] Andrew Yao, Leslie Valiant, Shigefumi Mori, George Lusztig, [17][18][19] David Gross, and Samuel C. C. Ting. In addition to the BSLA award, the Frontiers of Science Award (FSA) is awarded for research articles in the last ten years of exceptional quality. [20] The meeting also includes events like the Evening of Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, and Computer Science to highlight the three main fields of research celebrated in the ICBS as well as hosting many research talks, poster session and other events such as the Artificial Intelligence Forum.[21]
The inaugural ICBS was held in July, 2023.[22] The meeting included the opening ceremony for the new campus of the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications. The next ICBS meeting is expected to be held in August, 2026.[23]
