Ismail Dundar (born 27 March 1981 in Mersin, Turkey) is a Turkish theatre actor and director. Since 2005, he has worked at the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres, where he has been involved in acting and directing activities.[1]

Career
Dundar began his professional theatre career after graduating from the State Conservatory. In 2005, he joined the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres as an actor. Over the years, he appeared in many productions staged by the institution and later undertook directing and assistant directing roles.
Between 2013 and 2015, he served as the head of the Traditional Turkish Theatre Unit within the City Theatres.
In 2014, Dundar took part in the establishment of the Youth Stage (Gençlik Sahnesi) project, which focused on introducing theatre practice to younger participants. Activities carried out within this project were reported in the local and national press.[2]
In addition to his institutional work, Dundar has also appeared in productions staged by independent theatre groups in different cities in Turkey. These productions, particularly those presented after 2020, received attention from cultural journalism outlets.
In an interview with TiyatroOnline, Dundar discussed his long-term work in institutional theatre and the relationship between repertory theatres and independent production models in Turkey.[3]
Independent theatre
In 2023, Dundar appeared in the play Two on a Swing (Salıncakta İki Kişi), produced by Batı Performans Sanatları. The production was reviewed and featured in national arts publications.[4][5]
He also performed in Deathtrap (Ölüm Tuzağı), staged by Gate Production Theatre during the 2023–2024 theatre season.
Teaching and outreach
Alongside his stage work, Dundar has been involved in theatre education activities. He participated in theatre workshops and stage projects held in a semi-open correctional facility, one of which was covered by the national press.[6]
Film and television
Dundar has appeared in television series and films at various points in his career. His screen credits include Komedi Türk (2008), Kızılelma (2014), Payitaht: Abdülhamid (2019), Kasaba Doktoru (2022), and the film Başka Semtin Çocukları (2008).[7]
Awards
- Best Supporting Actor (Drama) – 11th International Yeni Tiyatro Magazine Labor and Achievement Awards (2024), for Deathtrap (Ölüm Tuzağı).[8]
