Early life and education
Brasch is originally from Denver, Colorado. He studied playwriting at the Juilliard School.[1]
Career
Brasch is a playwright and composer whose work has been produced and developed by several American regional theatres, including the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Alliance Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.[2][3]
His plays often draw on autobiographical themes and have explored subjects such as addiction, recovery, and family dynamics.
His play The Reservoir has been produced at multiple regional theatres and was presented Off-Broadway by Atlantic Theater Company in 2026. The play and Brasch’s work were discussed in The New York Times in an article examining contemporary plays about recovery.[4]
Writing in Vulture, critic Jackson McHenry discussed Brasch’s work in the context of contemporary American theatre.[5]
Brasch has also appeared on the public radio program Science Friday, where he discussed themes of memory and cognitive decline explored in his work.[6]
In addition to his playwriting, Brasch has written and performed musical theatre and other stage works.
Awards and honors
Brasch is a recipient of Vineyard Theatre’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and the Kennedy Center’s Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting. He was the inaugural recipient of the Terrence McNally Recovery Commission.[7]
