Jamail Umar is a youth politician serving as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) representing Dundee City East. He was elected in 2024 to represent and advocate for the young people of Dundee.

In 2025, he became the Convenor of the Jobs, Economy and Fair Work Committee, where he works on issues affecting young people’s employment opportunities, economic participation, and fair work.
Jamail is an active campaigner for financial education in schools, advocating for young people to gain essential money-management and financial literacy skills as part of their education.
In 2024, he delivered a speech to the Scottish Cabinet, including John Swinney, highlighting the importance of improving mental health support and services for young people.
He joined the Dundee Youth Council in 2023 as a Youth Councillor, where he began his involvement in youth representation and civic engagement.
Jamail is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Strathclyde. He is also an alumnus of the University of the Highlands and Islands in Perth, where he graduated with a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Accounting.
