Early life and education
Jamie Siminoff grew up in Chester, New Jersey.[3] As a child, he was interested in radio-controlled cards and tinkered and built gadgets. He would use tools from his father's steel forging plant to take apart television sets to build small inventions.[3][4]
Siminoff attended Morristown-Beard School, a secondary school in Morristown, New Jersey.[4] He then attended Babson College where he studied business. While a student, he started a campus electronics venture and competed in business competitions.[5][6] He graduated in 1999.[5]
Career
Early ventures
Siminoff founded several startups before Ring. One early startup was an online calling service in Bulgaria.[7] It eventually merged with another firm, and Siminoff sold his stake for more than $1 million.[7]
Another startup, his voicemail-to-text company PhoneTag, sold in 2009 for $17 million.[7][8]
He later co-founded Unsubscribe.com, which was acquired by TrustedID in 2011.[9][10]
Ring
In 2011, Siminoff created a Wi-Fi–enabled video doorbell in his garage, originally called Doorbot.[7] He appeared with the product on Shark Tank in 2013, and the sharks declined to invest.[7] The company was later renamed Ring and became one of the leading smart-home security brands.[7]
In 2018, Amazon acquired Ring for a sum of more than $1 billion.[11]
Siminoff remained CEO of Ring until 2023 when he stepped down.[12] In 2025, he returned to Amazon in a new role as vice president of product for the company's home security unit.[13][14] Siminoff now oversees Ring, Blink, Amazon Key, and Amazon Sidewalk.[13][14]
Other Engagements
After Ring's sale, Siminoff developed a connection to La Belle, Missouri, a small farming town. In 2023, he purchased a 75-acre property nearby, where he renovated a farmhouse and barn, built a hillside water slide, and envisioned the site as a hub for economic and social revitalization.[15] The involvement stemmed from his investment in Moink when he was a guest shark on Shark Tank.[15] He also owns property in Los Angeles, Nantucket, and Aspen, but described La Belle as “this little farm town that I love,” calling it “my happy place” and saying he wishes he could spend all his time there.[15]
In 2020, Siminoff purchased Handlebar Cafe, a coffee shop on Nantucket Island.[16] In 2021, he participated as a judge in the Nantucket Pitch Competition.[17]
Siminoff co-wrote Ding Dong: How Ring Went From Shark Tank Reject To Everyone's Front Door which was released in October 2025.[18]
Television
Siminoff appeared as an entrepreneur on Shark Tank in 2013 and did not obtain a deal with any of the investors.[7] He has since claimed that the TV appearance drove $5 million in new sales and that Ring would not have survived without it.[7] In 2018, after Amazon's acquisition of Ring, he returned to the show as a guest “shark” during season 10.[19]
Honors
In 2020, Siminoff was recognized as one of the AACSB “Influential Leaders” by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for his work in entrepreneurship and innovation.[20]
Siminoff delivered the commencement address at the Babson College Class of 2021 Commencement and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws at the ceremony.[21]
