Jan Busam (born 03 August 2003) is a German track and field athlete. He specializes in sprint events, particularly the 400 m, and competes internationally and collegiately in the United States.[1] He is a 7-time All-American[2], European Athletics U23 Championships Bronze Medalist with the 4x400m relay[1] and the 2025 South-German champion over the 200m and 400m distance.[3]

Early Life

Busam was born in Oberkirch and grew up in Lautenbach, Germany. He started out playing soccer and joined track & field at the age of 16. After one year he switched from his local club to the LG Offenburg in 2019 and then to Huntington University (United States) in 2025, on a sports scholarship[4]. There he is studying Engineering Management, following his Job as an Electrician, back in Germany.

Career

In 2023, Busam won the German national U23 title in the 4 × 400 metres relay.[5][6]

In 2024, he finished sixth at the German U23 National Championships.[7]

In 2025, Busam won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the European U23 Championships.[7][8][9][10] In the same year, he was the national runner-up in the 4 × 400 metres relay[11] and earned All-American honors four times.[11][12] He also placed sixth at the German U23 National Championships that year.[7]

In 2026 he earned three All-American honors at the NAIA National Championships in Gainesville[13], placing third in the 400m[14], eighth in the 200m and second in the 4x400m, making him a seven-time All-American.[15]
