Early life and education
Jay Ducote grew up in south Louisiana, where he developed an early interest in cooking through family gatherings, hunting and fishing camps, and Louisiana State University (LSU) tailgating traditions. His culinary journey began informally while hosting LSU tailgate parties as a student. Ducote earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and political science as well as a master’s degree in political science from LSU. [1] [2]
Career
Blogging, media, and radio
Ducote started the Bite & Booze blog in 2009 to document meals and culinary experiences. Eventually, this content grew into a broader media presence including food writing, events, and radio. He hosted The Bite & Booze Radio Show in Baton Rouge, which won a Taste Award for best food or drink radio broadcast in the United States and the Uniquely Louisiana Award from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.[3]
Television

Ducote expanded his personal brand by launching a line of products under the name Jay D’s, including Louisiana barbecue sauce, molasses mustard, barbecue rubs, wine collaborations, and coffee. In 2018 he introduced Gov’t Taco, a taco restaurant concept in Baton Rouge blending Louisiana flavors with modern street food.[12] [13]

Ducote is the author of Jay Ducote’s Louisiana Outdoor Cooking, published in 2020 by LSU Press. The book contains more than 150 recipes alongside stories from his culinary journey rooted in Louisiana outdoor cooking and tailgating traditions.[15]
In 2017, Jay used his love for comestibles and his knowledge of political science to give a TEDx Talk at his alma mater on the intersection between our local consumption and its effects on the greater economy, highlighting a new approach to conscioius capitalism.[16]
