Jochen Lösch (born 1965) is a German lawyer and sports marketing executive. He has held leading roles in sports and media companies in Germany, Brazil and the United Kingdom, including UFA Sports/Sportfive, Traffic Sports and MP & Silva. Lösch works as an independent consultant in the sports investment sector and is based in London.[1]

Early life and education

Lösch grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay. He studied law at the University of Hamburg, where he completed a doctorate in law (Dr. jur.).[2]

Lösch began his professional career as a corporate lawyer at the international law firm CMS.[3]

Career in sports marketing

UFA Sports / Sportfive

In 1998, Lösch joined UFA Sports (later Sportfive), where he served as Head of Legal Affairs.[4] In 2000, he became Managing Director of Sportfive Americas, based in Rio de Janeiro.[5] He returned to Hamburg in 2004 as Vice President of TV Rights.[6]

Traffic Sports

In 2007, Lösch joined Traffic Sports in São Paulo as President of International Business. Traffic Sports was the leading football company in Latin America at the time, managing the commercial rights of all South American Football Federations and all major football competitions in the region.[7]

MP & Silva

In October 2016, Lösch was appointed Global Chief Executive Officer and a board member of MP & Silva.[8] In 2016, the company received the Globe Soccer Award for Best Sports Media Agency.[9]

JL Sports Investment

Following his departure from MP & Silva in 2017, Lösch founded JL Sports Investment, a London-based advisory firm that advises investors on M&A activities in the sports business.[10]

Player development and transfer activities

During his time at Traffic Sports, Lösch was involved in player development and international transfer activities. Traffic operated Desportivo Brasil, an academy and club that partnered with Manchester United on youth development.[11] Traffic also held stakes in player transfer rights and operated investment funds until FIFA prohibited third-party ownership in 2015.[12] According to contemporary media reports, Lösch was associated with transfer and commercial activities involving players such as Renato Augusto, Hernanes and Ronaldinho.[13] In 2010, he brokered an endorsement agreement between Panasonic and Neymar.[14]

FIFA and CONMEBOL investigations

Traffic Sports was among the companies named in the 2015 United States Department of Justice investigation into corruption in international football.[15] Lösch was not charged in the case and left the company in 2016.[16]
