Van Haaster is a two-time gold medallist at the EHF Nations Tournament. She was named All-star Team goalkeeper at the 2015, 2016 and 2018 European Wheelchair Handball Nations' Tournaments, and at the 2022 World and European Wheelchair Handball Championship.
Career
Van Haaster began playing handball as a teenager in the Netherlands and represented the Dutch junior national team[1].
Van Haaster's career was cut short in 2002 when she discovered a swelling in her left thigh, which was later diagnosed as a malignant tumour. She eventually returned to sport via wheelchair tennis[2], but after the Netherlands Handball Federation demonstrated wheelchair handball in 2013, van Haaster got in touch and took up the new sport[1].
She joined C.S.V. Handbal in 2014 and the following year competed in her first European Wheelchair Handball Nations' Tournament, where the Netherlands won gold. The Netherlands also won gold at the Nations Tournament in 2016 and bronze in 2018.
Van Haaster was part of the Dutch team which won silver at the 2022 World and European Wheelchair Handball Championship in Portugal.
Other roles
Van Haaster is a role model[3] for the European Handball Federation's 'Her Playground'[4] project, which aims to boost the representation of women in handball.
Away from handball, van Haaster set up a kinesiology clinic, Balance of Joy in 2024.
