Draft:KARACAOVA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Meglen (Moglena) region was also referred to as Karacaova in Ottoman administrative records and population registers.[1] Prior to the Ottoman period, the region was inhabited by Slavic, Greek (Rum), and Vlach communities. Some studies also mention the presence of Turkic groups that later became Slavicized.[2]

During the Ottoman period, the region saw the settlement of Anatolian groups including Evlad-ı Fatihan communities as well as Konyar and Yörük populations as part of Ottoman settlement policies in the Balkans.[3]
Important demographic information about the Karacaova region appears in the Ottoman population registers of 1831, which record villages and households in the district.[4]
A detailed study of the 1831 population records of the Karacaova / Karacaabad region was published by Hüsnü Yazıcı.[5]
