Khandaker Sumon[1] [2] is a Bangladeshi film director. His debut feature film Saatao (2022) received national and international recognition, including awards at the National Film Awards (Bangladesh) and several international film festivals. His work has been covered by major Bangladeshi newspapers, including The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, and Dhaka Tribune.
Career
Sumon began his career with short films before directing his first feature-length film, Saatao, released in 2022. The film was screened at several international film festivals and received the FIPRESCI Prize at the Dhaka International Film Festival 2023.[3]
Saatao won the Gautama Buddha Award for Best Feature Film at the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF).[4] The film also received the Best International Feature Film award at the 14th Nepal Africa International Film Festival (NAIFF) in 2026.[5]
At the National Film Awards (Bangladesh) 2023, Saatao received multiple awards, including Best Film and Best Director.[6][7]
In addition to filmmaking, Sumon has served as a jury member at international film festivals. He was part of the International Feature Film jury at the 8th Nepal International Film Festival in 2025.[8] He also served as a jury member at the 6th Bogura International Film Festival in 2026.[9]
